Board Approves Upgrade For Football Field Lighting


West Geauga Board of Education Special Meeting – July 22, 2025 


Meeting Details:
The West Geauga Board of Education met on July 22, 2025 at 7:32 am in the Board Office Community Room, 8615 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Meetings are open to the public and media. Board Attendance:
Dr. William Beers, Vice President; Mrs. Kathy Leavenworth, Member; Mrs. Mary-Michelle Coleman Walsh, Member; and Mrs. Pam Claypool, Member, were present. Mrs. Christina Sherwood, President, was absent.

Staff Attendance: Karen Pavlat, Treasurer; Dr. Nancy Benincasa, Assistant Superintendent; Scott Amstutz, Director of Instructional Technology; and Dr. Amy Davis, Director of Pupil Personnel, were present.


Other Attendees:
  There were no other observed attendees. Observer’s Note:  This observer streamed the meeting and utilized an online version of the agenda in preparation of this report.


Opening of Special Meeting -
The Special Meeting was called to order at 7:32 am by Dr. Beers. The roll call was conducted, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited.  


Additions and/or Changes to the Agenda –
There were none.


0.50 min. Board Resolutions -  All Approved

  • 2025-07-298 Resolution to Approve Quote and Authorize the Superintendent and Treasurer to Enter Into A Contract With Techline Sports Lighting, LLC for the Football Stadium Retrofit Upgrade - This proposal is to repair damage to the football field lights caused by a tornado last year and to replace/install new fixtures for the entire system.  Mrs. Claypool asked if there was an insurance claim involved.  Mr. Amstutz stated that a claim was being pursued.  Dr. Beers indicated it was appropriate to replace all of the fixtures to ensure uniformity of the lighting quality and color range.  Dr. Benincasa said she was concerned with player safety due to several areas having non-functioning lighting.

  • 2025-07-299 Resolution to Approve the 3-Year Products and Services Proposal between Transfinder and West Geauga Local Schools - The resolution will allow the district to begin implementing an upgraded bus route management system utilizing tablets in each of the buses.  The roll-out will be five units at a time.

5.45 min. Personnel Resolutions - All Approved  Observer Note: See the agenda for the names of the individuals receiving staff appointments.

  • 2025-07-300 Resolution to Approve Certified Staff Appointments for the 2025-2026 School Year - Dr. Benincasa indicated that only one unfilled certified staff position remained for the coming school year.

  • 2025-07-301 Resolution to Approve Classified Staff Appointments for the 2025-2026 School Year.

  • Announcement of Next Board Meeting – It was announced that there would be a Special Meeting on July 31, 2025 beginning at 5:30 pm and a Regular Meeting on August 8, 2025 beginning at 7:00 pm in the Board Office Community Room, 8615 Cedar Road in Chester Township. Observer Note: Subsequent to the meeting, an additional Special Meeting was called for August 5, 2025.

  • 2025-06-302 Resolution to Adjourn – The meeting was adjourned at 7:39 am.
