Budget Commission Approves Previously Tabled West Geauga Schools’ Amendment
Budget Commission Special Meeting – July 1, 2024
Meeting Details: The Geauga County Budget Commission met in Special Session on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 9:45 am in the Auditor's Conference Room, 215 Main Street, Chardon, Ohio. This meeting was in person with a virtual option via MS Teams.
Meeting Attendance: Treasurer Chris Hitchcock, Auditor Chuck Walder, and Prosecutor Jim Flaiz.
Staff Attendance: Chief Deputy Treasurer Caroline Mansfield, Chief Deputy Auditor Ron Leyde, Deputy Auditors Tammy Most and Kristen Sinatra, and Fiscal Office Manager Pam McMahan.
County Staff: Geauga County Budget and Finance Manager Adrian Gorton (virtual).
Members of the Public: Auburn Township Resident Diane Jones and this LWV Geauga Observer (both virtual).
The meeting was called to order at 9:45 am.

The following Revenue Certification was approved:

West Geauga Local School District - Amendment #1. $58,253,875.45 in the general fund, $5,283,156.12 in special revenue funds, $8,948,507.80 in capital project funds, $1,598,388.38 in enterprise funds, $262,354.87 in internal service funds, and $124,408.82 in fiduciary funds for a total of $74,470,688.44. Appropriations do not exceed revenue.
West Geauga’s amendment reflected an overall net change over original of $3,147,718.44. The most notable changes mentioned were a decrease in the general fund of $2.25 million and an increase in the capital projects fund of $4,250,000. Reviewer Note: This transfer was approved at the June 24, 2024 West Geauga Board of Education Meeting. It was stated at that meeting that this amount would be used for Middle School renovations. Mr. Flaiz noted that West Geauga Treasurer Karen Pavlat sent him an email thanking the Budget Commission for scheduling this special meeting to accommodate the district. Observer Note: The Budget Commission previously tabled this amendment at the June 27, 2024 Budget Commission Meeting because they could not vote on an amendment for the new fiscal year starting on July 1 until that fiscal year had actually begun.
